A Comparative Study between Endoscopic Result and Upper Gastrointestinal Double Contrast Findings in Endoscopically Confirmed-Duodenal Ulcer

Abstract
The author performed a comparative study according to location, stage, and form with upper gastrointestinal X-ray in endoscopically confirmed 625 duodenal ulcer-cases at gastroenterologic department of Hae-Wha Hospital, Korea University Medical School from July 1980 to June 1985.
The results were as follows:
1. In 625 duodenal ulcer-cases, X-ray revealed 51.4% in direct sign, 25.6% in indirect sign, and 23.0% in negative, and false negative rate was 17.3o and false positive rate was 33.5%.
2. In 625 duodenal ulcer-cases, negative findings in X-ray were 75.7% in pyloric ring, 19.4% in bulb, and 30.0% in postbulbar area, so false negative rate was high in pyloric ring and false positive rate was high in bulb.
3. In 568 bulb ulcer-cases, false negative rate was high in single ulcer than multiple ulcer and false negative rate in single ulcer was high in greater curvature.
4. False positive rate according to endoscopic ulcer-form in 568 bulb ulcer-cases was high in S3 than S1 and Sz in single ulcer, and high in Mz and M3 than M1 in multiple ulcer.
From these findings, it is suggested that the decision of healing process is superior in endoscopy than X-ray, and false negative and false positive rate were different in ulcer location and form.
